This tier 1 market infrastructure firm has inherited an operational infrastructure that is too expensive to operate and too slow to change in an era of decreasing margins and increasing market and regulatory demand. The challenge was to design a radical transformation that would dramatically reduce both run and change costs, whilst improving customer experience and responsiveness.


Project Scope

  • Current state analysis: TFE analysed business models across all business silos to identify a common functional model and mapped existing systems inventory and change investments to identify duplication and simplification opportunities
  • Target state design: building on an initial hypothesis we designed a far simpler target state logical and physical architecture based on strategic design principles, achieving 80% reduction in complexity
  • Strategic roadmap: supported by TFE’s roadmapping approach and tooling, we identified the strategic units of change necessary to deliver the target physical architecture and developed a multi-year model mapping costs, durations, resource profile, customer impact and most importantly, business benefit and ROI


In very short timeframes the client was able to develop a detailed strategic investment roadmap aligned with the firm’s strategy and line of business priorities, with the support of a wide business, operational and technology stakeholder group.
